FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

Do you print images onto the metal or is it an etching?

Neither! We use a traditional photography darkroom process under yellow light. A digital image is printed onto a special negative paper and then taken into the darkroom where it is developed onto the treated photo-sensitive aluminum. Once exposed, the metal sheet is run through developer and fixer, then sealed in boiling water. Each piece is manually cut and cornered.

Can My order be displayed outside?

Absolutely! The material is an anodized aluminum; and due to the darkroom process, the image is essentially embedded into the aluminum surface. It can withstand elements for 20+ years. Depending on how your order is mounted will determine longevity. A wooden backing or post may degrade more quickly than the aluminum work.

Do you need an original photo or negative?

No. Any image that can be digitized will work. However, some images work better than others depending on the lighting, exposure, and contrast. We always provide feedback before developing your order.

Can you convert my image to black and white?

Yes, we can convert your colour image and make any minor adjustments that may help it develop better.

How do I get my image to you?

Email is the easiest. Attach your digital file to your email using any of the following formats: JPG, PNG, HEIC, PSD, or PDF. Send the highest resolution or file size version you have.

What if I only have a Print original?

We suggest you scan your image at a high resolution then email the file to hello@tkmarsh.com. If you cannot scan your image, seek assistance. Take it to a print shop or mail us the original photo. We will return it to you with your order. In some cases, you can photograph your image by placing it on a flat, well lit surface (not recommended for sizable enlargements). Take a photo of it as best you can filling and squaring it in the frame of your camera. If the photo is in a picture frame, remove the glass before scanning or photographing (for clarity and reduced glare).

I only want a section of a photo developed, not the entire image. should i crop it first?

No. Please don’t crop your image. Send us the full, highest resolution size of the image you have and we will crop to the desired subject or area. Images that are pre-cropped are usually too low in resolution to recommend developing.

what is your turnaround time for ordering?

Approximately 7-10 days from time of ordering to sending your order out the door. Depending on the time of year, your order could be ready sooner or later than our timeframe. If you require a rush order, we do charge an extra fee. It’s more efficient for us to batch orders together rather than a complete darkroom set up for one order.
